| dc.description.notes | This article reports the findings from a US-based longitudinal randomised controlled trial which examined the effectiveness of community-based outreach compared to referrals for women reporting intimate partner abuse to police. The outreach model involved a community-based advocate contacting women to confidentially discuss services and options. The referral model involved a system-based advocate from the police or prosecuting attorney’s office who provided referrals to local services. The researchers examined differences in victims’ report of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, fear, safety and use of services. Findings include decreases in PTSD, depression and fear among women who received the community outreach service. | en |
