| Notes: | Presents the methodology and results of an empirical study aimed at assessing the effects of witnessing domestic violence on the psycho-social adjustment of young children. Although the findings do not provide strong support for the intergenerational transmission of violent/aggressive behaviour, the tendency for adjustment problems to increase as children get older was noted and it is suggested that witnessing violence can have a range of other, more subtle effects on children's development. Some implications of the findings for future policy, practice and research are also discussed. |
