This paper presents the attitudes, components and particular strategies required to achieve a holistic approach that effectively addresses family violence in Aboriginal communities. A holistic model involves genuine understanding of the core aspects behind family violence and promotes healing, strength and unity within Aboriginal communities. Some of the vital elements considered are the participation of Elders and Community Leaders; the utilisation of internal conflict resolution processes; and the access to educational information. Several anti-violence strategies are discussed; these include night patrols, cross-cultural training, partnerships, customary techniques and regional Indigenous agreements.en
