Outlines the methodology and results of a US study aimed at ascertaining factors that might inhibit children from utilising domestic violence counselling services. Parents who had previously used these services were asked to identify perceived obstacles to their children's participation in domestic violence programmes. The findings suggest children's and/or parents' opposition to child participation, violence-related stress and technical difficulties, such as time constraints, play key roles. Argues that barriers arising from both family and agency factors must be addressed if children's access to domestic violence programmes is to improve.en
