Title: | Does an intersectional understanding of international human rights law represent the way forward in the prevention and redress of domestic violence against indigenous women in Australia? |
Authors: | Buston-Namisnyk, Emma |
Keywords: | Domestic violence;Law;Family violence;Human rights;Aboriginal Australians |
Year: | 2014 |
Citation: | Vol. 18, no. 1 |
Notes: | While domestic violence has gained attention under international human rights law as a form of gender-based discrimination and a violation of women's human rights, it is only recently that human rights specifically attaching to Indigenous peoples have also been considered by the international human rights community, identifying Indigenous discrimination as deserving of special consideration due to the historical dimensions associated with Indigenous dispossession and the legacy of post-colonial discrimination. |
