dc.description.notes | "March 2009"<br/ >General Overview: Safe at Home, the Tasmanian Government’s integrated response to family violence, was introduced in 2004. This discussion paper reports on the findings of the first stage of SuccessWork’s review of Safe at Home, which was commissioned by the Tasmanian Department of Justice. Among other things, the review included an examination of: the achievements of Safe at Home; the effectiveness of state-wide, regional and local governance structures; and opportunities for further integration.<br/ ><br/ >A key component of the SuccessWorks review was a comparison of the Safe at Home data in the period between 2004-05 and 2007-08, across different regions of Tasmania. The data cover police activity, court activity, use of the adult counselling and child counselling services, referrals to the offender program, use of court support, case coordination, and the gender of offenders. Interesting findings from SuccessWork’s analysis include that:<br/ ><br/ > * more than one quarter of Safe at Home cases (28%) involved female offenders, of which 25% involved dual arrest and a further 15% involved women who had been identified as a victim of family violence on at least one prior occasion.<br/ ><br/ >A wide range of areas for further improvement were also canvassed during the consultation process. At the time of publication of the discussion paper, a second round of consultations was planned for March/April 2009. | en |
