dc.description.notes | Presented at the Australian Institute of Criminology Child Sexual Abuse: Justice Response or Alternative Resolution Conference in May 2003, this paper reviews current research into domestic violence, child sexual abuse, separating families and the relationship between these. The dynamics of this relationship are explored and problems raised by current system responses to the issues, such as cuts to legal aid funding, legislative reform and the need for coordination between federal family law and state child protection services, are discussed. The debate surrounding the appropriate response to allegedly false allegations of child abuse by 'vindictive mothers' is also canvassed and it is concluded that, if the needs of abused children are to be met, traditional assumptions and approaches must be challenged. | en |
