A high proportion of those brought before juvenile justice courts have been direct victims, indirect victims or perpetrators of domestic violence. The negative impacts of experiencing domestic violence, such as behavioural difficulties and stress reactions, are outlined. Suggestions for responding to disclosures, including reporting to child protection services, are included. Risk assessment and safety planning are also discussed.
