This article investigates the lifetime prevalence of intimate partner violence among Australians aged 16 years and older, using the validated Composite Abuse Scale (Revised)—Short Form and data drawn from 8503 mobile-phone interviews conducted in 2021. Overall, 44.8 per cent of respondents reported experiencing at least one form of intimate partner violence, with women significantly more likely than men to report physical, sexual and psychological violence. Non-heterosexual participants and people of diverse genders also reported higher prevalence. Younger adults (16–44 years) recorded higher rates than those aged 45 years and above. The authors highlight the need for comprehensive national prevention strategies and stronger clinical responses within health, welfare and justice systems.en
