People with disability in Australia 2026

Abstract

This report brings together national statistics on the experiences and outcomes of people with disability across health, housing, education, employment, justice and safety, social inclusion and support. The 2026 edition provides detailed analysis of the population and its characteristics, including support needs, use of aids and equipment, life expectancy, health status, health risk factors and behaviours, chronic conditions, and access to health services. It also summarises evidence relating to other areas of life, with more detailed analyses planned for future updates.<br><br>The report draws on national surveys and administrative collections to compare outcomes for people with and without disability and identify significant evidence gaps. It documents poorer health outcomes, barriers to services, discrimination and socioeconomic disadvantage, as well as higher rates of some forms of violence among women with disability. The report identifies opportunities to strengthen the evidence base through more consistent definitions, improved data sharing and linkage, and the development of new collections.
