| dc.description.notes | This chapter addresses the question of how to combat sexual violence and meet the needs of victims and perpetrators at a practical and policy level. The paucity of lesbian and bi-sexual specific crisis and outreach services in the US is highlighted and the inadequacy of mainstream services in dealing with the issues confronted by homosexual victims of violence, such as homophobia and heterosexism, are considered. The challenge for agencies attempting to enhance service provision for lesbian and bi-sexual women and developing appropriate language and intervention strategies, is examined and some of the common characteristics and behavioural patterns of lesbian abusers are identified. The need for appropriate screening processes and greater professional training in same-sex relationship issues is also suggested. | en |
