Addresses the insertion of Part VII into the Family Law Act 1975, in particular issues concerning children’s residence and their relationship with the contact parent; property; and evidence and procedure. The cases significant to the 1995 amendments to the Act are discussed. Domestic violence’s relevance to residence, custody and related disputes is raised in the Full Court’s decision in Blanch v Blanch and Crawford. The problems faced by the courts regarding evidence in relation to child abuse are illustrated in the judgement of Nicholson CJ in DT v JT. The author also includes some of the Federal and State legislative developments.en
