dc.description.notes | This paper discusses the overlap between substance use and family violence, and some of the current responses to address them in the USA. In particular, it reports the Substance Abuse Treatment Unit’s Substance Abuse-Domestic Violence Program (SATU-SADV Model), which targets and treats both behaviours in an integrated way. Definition differences of domestic violence between the mental health and legal professions, and the legal framework to deal with domestic violence are discussed. The process of placing a batterer in a particular programme, the consequent supervision, the limitations of diversion programmes and the policies regarding substance use at the time of an alleged offence are also explained. | en |
