| dc.description.notes | This paper discusses the treatment of men and women who are either perpetrators or victims of violence and dependent on or addicted to alcohol or drugs. Differential philosophies and conceptual strategies for dealing with partner abuse are described, including feminist theories, classical family systems theories and intimate justice theory. Issues for incorporating relationship counselling into cases of partner violence are explored. Similarly, the inclusion of family therapy and relationship counselling into substance abuse treatment is addressed. Particular attention is drawn to Behavioural Couples Therapy, which was developed specifically to focus on the marital interactions that involve an addicted partner.
