dc.description.notes | Utilising findings from recent empirical studies, this chapter assesses the proposition that restorative justice provides better outcomes for victims than more conventional criminal justice practices and analyses the extent to which restorative justice practices are capable of mobilising resources for the safety of women and children. A background to the prominent models of intervention is provided and the major differences between the restorative justice, victimology and domestic violence literature are highlighted. Special emphasis is also placed on the diversity of women’s experiences in domestic violence situations and an intersectional framework which recognises the impact of race, class and gender is advocated. Concludes that critical scrutiny of many of the underlying assumptions, mechanisms for accountability and safety of restorative justice models is a necessity. | en |
