Notes:  Looks at gender-based violence (specifically violence against women and girls), as a particular challenge facing women in urban areas. States that there is a general consensus that women experience heightened levels of insecurity and conflict in cities, and that violence and associated fear severely limit women's right and ability to move freely around a city, and impacts on their capacity to engage in key economic, social and political activities. In addition to a range of root causes of GBV, there are also specifically urban-specific contraints that act as triggers in the perpetration of VAWG. This chapter examines the relationship betwen these forces and wider gender transformations form an asset-framework perpective.
