An executive summary of this study may be found at http://www.dca.gov.uk/research/2002/10-02es.htm. This study explores the process of making supervised or supported contact arrangements where there is a history of domestic violence. Questionnaires and interviews were conducted with service providers at contact centres, court welfare officers, fathers, mothers and children attending contact centres in England and Wales. Different professional perspectives were identified in terms of levels of vigilance expected, safety features and the role of staff. A lack of adequate information and assessment was revealed. Defining evidence of domestic violence and child abuse was problematic and contested. Issues for the development of policy and practice are discussed.en
