dc.description.notes | General Overview: :This collection of essays discusses the work done in therapeutic group programs for infants, children and their parents at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Victoria.<br/ ><br/ >Discussion: :This collection of papers was compiled to mark ten years of group work with infants and children affected by family violence. The first program, “parkas” (parents accepting responsibility – kids are safe) uses the same facilitators to run separate group sessions for mothers and children. They use discussion, art and story telling to explore their feelings about family violence. The “just for kids” group was initially developed to cater for children whose mothers decided not to participate in the parkas group, and uses similar activities as the parkas group. The “Peek a Boo Club” is a group for infants and mothers. This group uses singing, dancing and games to improve the relationship between the infants and their mothers. The collection includes many examples of both successful and unsuccessful activities, essays on principles and theory and a chapter on evaluation. | en |
