dc.description.notes | The Wirringa Baiya Aboriginal Women's Legal Centre produced "Eh La 2001 Diary " as a resource for Indigenous young people in response to concerns about the prevalence of violence within Indigenous communities. It was decided by young people that a diary would be the most appropriate resource to inform them about issues concerning violence and their legal rights. The diary operates as a handbook with important information contained throughout at the beginning of each month. For example, at the beginning of March, information about family violence, rights, myths and facts, and poetry is displayed in a colourful and creative way to send messages to young people about the unacceptability of violence. Legal information about Apprehended Violence Orders (AVOs) is included in January as a legal remedy to violence. Inspirational quotes from Indigenous identities such as Cathy Freeman are highlighted throughout the text of the diary. Further information about legal services, Victims' Compensation and sexual assault services is located at the front and back of the diary. Messages about the importance of legal rights, speaking up and contacting services for support and advocacy are conveyed by the text. | en |
