Title: Trauma-informed services and trauma-specific care for Indigenous Australian children
Authors: Atkinson, Judy
Keywords: Indigenous issues;Impact on children and young people;Service provision
Year: 2013
Publisher: Australian Institute of Health and Welfare
Citation: Resource sheet No. 21
Notes:  This briefing paper seeks to summarise the research on trauma and traumatic experiences as they impact infants and children, in particular Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. Very few of these studies are specific to the Indigenous Australian population, however, and the author relies on examples of trauma-informed services and tools, in development or in use currently in Australia, as well as examples of cultural approaches to trauma-specific care to demonstrate interventions which may enable recovery.
