General Overview:This one page fact sheet presents data on Australian children who were the subject of abuse or neglect substantiations in a 12 month period covering 2004-2005. The results are presented graphically and show the rate of reporting by age in years and specifically compare Indigenous children to non-Indigenous children at each age interval. In each age category, the rate of reporting for Indigenous children is far greater than the rate for non-Indigenous children.

The source of the data is: Australian Institute of Health and Welfare 2006, “Child protection in Australia 2004-05”, AIHW (Child welfare series no. 38), Canberra. http://www.aihw.gov.au/publications/index.cfm/title/10245
