| dc.description.notes | "16 November 2004"<br/ >This fact sheet highlights another aspect from the Australian component of the International Violence Against Women Survey (IVAWS) in its report, Women's experiences of male violence:. Besides reporting the information on women as victims of male physical and sexual violence, it also reports on women's experiences of emotional abuse and controlling behaviours by male partners. This summarises the findings that women who experience controlling behaviours by male partners are more likely to experience higher levels of violence. During the 12 months before the survey, about 3% of a total sample of 5,074 reported that they experienced violence from a current intimate partner. By contrast, 6% of women who experienced any controlling behaviours reported violence from a current intimate partner. Women with current intimate partners who had damaged property also reported levels of violence 8 times higher than the average for current intimate partner violence in general (23% and 3% respectively). | en |
