Notes: | This paper examines a number of mental heath issues from a gender perspective. It describes sex differences in prevalence, onset and course of disorders. Similarly, it discusses the underlying factors of the variation, including the interaction between biological and social vulnerability, gender roles and gender-based violence. Research findings are presented to identify women’s and men’s health-seeking behaviour. The impact of service delivery and the social consequences derived from mental health problems are explored. Finally, implications for research, mental health policies and programmes are suggested. |
