dc.description.notesGeneral Overview & Objective: This Queensland bulletin reports on the statistical data on stalking offences from 1995-96 to 1999-2000.<br/ ><br/ >Discussion & Results: The majority of victims were females (77%) and the majority of offenders were males (88%). A total of 3,248 incidents were reported in the 5 years in Queensland. Offenders were charged for 862 stalking incidents. 57% convicted in higher courts were sentenced to imprisonment. 23% of offenders were ex-partners, 49% were acquaintances, and only 12% were strangers. Table 2 shows the reasons given on domestic violence protection order applications with 80% of all applications indicating intimidation and/or harassment (both are in the definition of stalking). The most common penalties in the lower courts were community correction orders and fines.en
