Outlines the methodology and findings of a study which sought to classify male perpetrators of domestic violence according to certain characteristics and assess any differences in response to a Men’s Behaviour Change Program between each category. The study assumes a two-tier typology of abusers and reveals ‘type 2’ or borderline personality-type abusers may respond more effectively to batterer intervention programmes. The need for further research into effective intervention strategies for men with ‘type 1’ or antisocial type personalities is highlighted.
