Notes:  This Australian resource looks at the role men may play in preventing sexual assault. It explains the move towards engaging both men and:women in prevention of violence against women. While minimal empirical evidence supports the actual effectiveness of men’s participation in sexual assault primary prevention, research does reflect the value of promoting respectful relationships and reinforcing gender equality in reducing sexual violence.

This paper goes beyond the reasoning behind engaging men in primary prevention to exploration of practical processes of doing so, illustrated with examples. Finally, the paper examines gender stereotypes and their contribution to reinforcing perpetration of sexual violence as well as how reframing such stereotypes can positively engage men in prevention initiatives.
