| dc.description.notes | Addresses the issue of violence against Aboriginal women in Australia from a number of perspectives. The first section looks at historical violence against Aboriginal Australians generally, followed by a consideration of violence specifically directed against Indigenous women. The author then outlines the ways in which the feminist movement in Australia has failed to incorporate the interests of Indigenous women into its international and domestic political agendas. Assesses the strengths and limitations for Aboriginal women, in adopting an international human rights framework for addressing the issue of violence in Aboriginal communities and refers to some successful attempts at integrating grass roots and international legal responses to violence against women. Concludes that the global human rights discourse is more accessible than ever before and provides an opportunity for addressing violence against Indigenous women not available through domestic avenues. | en |
