Since the late 1980s, multiple efforts have been carried out to raise international awareness of violence against women. The Campaign for Women's Human Rights condemned the lack of concern of the human rights community, and achieved the recognition of violence against women in the private sphere as an abuse of human rights. As a result, the United Nations and major NGOs are investigating and implementing programmes to denounce the issue, and more instruments are available to access previous and new sanctions. During the same period, violence was framed as a health issue, which provided experience in research, and more interventions, funding and services. This global effort emphasises how theoretical debates contribute to crucial changes in the real world.en
