Qualitative US study with a sample of children aged 10-13 years who were interviewed an average of four times to develop an in-depth understanding of the experience of exposure to violence. The findings are structured around five main themes in a semi-chronological framework. Concludes that those intervening with children who have experienced domestic violence need to be aware that children may be in different phases of their experiences of violence and hence may be confronting different types of problems and be using different ways of managing them. Identifies the confusion and distress which children experience in their relationship with their fathers as an important focus for intervention and suggests that children can benefit from non judgemental environments where their thoughts and feelings about their parents can be freely expressed and validated.en
