This article examines the Family Law Legislation Amendment (Family Violence and Other Measures) Bill 2011, which was intended to enhance protection of children involved in the family law system from abuse and family violence. In particular, the author compares the passed legislation with the ‘Exposure Draft’ released prior to seek consultation and submissions. Following this, the article specifically examines the amendment’s inclusion of family violence orders as factors to consider when making decisions in the best interests of the child. The conclusion identifies specific recommendations for amending this aspect of the legislation.en
