Outlines the methodology and results of a study which examined the attitudes of US university students with regard to who is to blame in domestic violence situations. The study also explored the prevalence of dating violence and its relationship to attribution of blame. Findings revealed that males were more likely to attribute blame to the victim than females and that those who had experienced violence in the past were more likely to recognise societal factors contributing to violence. A link was also found between the use of violence in dating relationships and tendency to blame the victim. Concludes that improved education and awareness programmes in universities are needed.en
