dc.description.notes | Reports the methodology and results of a US study exploring the frequency and severity of various types of intimate partner violence, including physical abuse and stalking, and their association with alcohol and/or illicit drug use by the perpetrator. Comparisons are drawn between perpetrators who used no alcohol or drugs, those who used either alcohol or drugs and those who used both, and the differences in type and severity of violence adopted by each group are examined. It is argued the results indicate the use of alcohol and/or drugs is consistently related with higher levels of both physical violence and stalking behaviour, and the strong association between stalking and intimate partner assault is highlighted. Advocates for further research into these associations as a way towards improving intervention and prevention strategies for abused women. | en |
