Evidence shows that stalking is one of the manifestations of intimate partner violence during and after the relationship. Physical assaults and murder have been associated with previous stalking reports. This study from the USA examines the incarceration and prior offence history of 346 men charged with stalking in one state in 1999. Men found guilty of felony stalking were significantly more likely to have been previously charged with threatening offenses and convicted of resisting arrest. A high usage rate of protective orders in stalking cases was also found. Implications and areas for further research are discussed, especially the need for more information about the arrest profiles of persons charged with stalking.en
