The article provides an analysis of the second Australian Women’s Safety Survey (1996) to determine the importance of demographic factors in violence against women. A statistical model is used to measure the level of risk that particular women face based on specific attributes. The benchmark characteristics used to establish the comparison are: age, marital status, number and age of children, levels of post-school education, household type, income, non-English speaking background, socioeconomic status, school-leaving age, and employment status. The findings show that only the last three features yielded no statistically significant effect on the risk of experiencing violence.en
