This research investigates the relationship between experiences of abuse or family violence in childhood and the risk of becoming an intimate partner victim or perpetrator. Participants in the US Adverse Childhood Experiences Study provided information about abuse and household dysfunction during childhood, and health-related behaviours from adolescence to adulthood. Research findings show that childhood abuse or domestic violence exposure increased the risk of victimisation or perpetration of intimate partner violence.en
