For more information see "The Columbus Project Pilot" on our Good Practice database.<br/ >Provides an overview of the development and implementation of the Columbus Pilot Project, a case management strategy developed by the Family Court of Western Australia aimed at enhancing acknowledgement of and early intervention into conflict, violence and abusive behaviour in separating families. The tendency for proceedings in the Family Court to become adversarial in nature is recognised and an alternative model enabling the court to become part of the healing and growth process for families is proposed. The role of other agencies, such as the Legal Aid Commission and various non-government support/referral services, is outlined and the importance of the networks that have developed between these affiliated agencies through the work of the Columbus Project, is highlighted. Concludes that the Columbus Project has acted as a key catalyst for a series of positive developments in the Family Court system of Western Australia.en
