dc.description.notes | Outlines some of the major issues researchers seeking to investigate the area of abuse and women with disabilities should consider in developing their research projects. Issues raised include: the lack of appropriate research designs for studies in this area and the corresponding lack of interventions for women with disabilities; failure to incorporate consideration of several important variables that may increase the vulnerability to abuse of women with disabilities; the absence of any recognition of the interaction between the negative consequences of abuse and women’s pre-existing disability; the lack of definitional consensus amongst researchers; problems with sampling and recruitment techniques and research instruments; various ethical issues such as confidentiality, informed consent and safety; and the need for greater involvement of minority and marginalised groups in mainstream research projects. Concludes by outlining several core principles and challenges for the development of intervention, prevention and evaluation programmes in this area. | en |
