Notes: | Describes the findings of an evaluation conducted in relation to the implementation and consequences, both positive and negative, of mandatory domestic violence reporting laws in Kentucky, USA. An overview of mandatory reporting laws in other US states is provided and specific aspects of the scheme introduced in Kentucky that render it unique are highlighted. Some of the arguments raised for and against the introduction of mandatory reporting laws are considered and it is suggested that for the legislative scheme to achieve its aims of increased safety, domestic violence and related services must be enhanced so as to provide a more supportive context for intervention. |
