Notes:  General Overview: This short Australian article outlines how information and communication technologies can be used to abuse, stalk and monitor partners and ex-partners, and also considers how these same technologies can be harnessed to assist victims.

Discussion: The author outlines how mobile phones, computers and Global Positioning Systems can be used to frighten and monitor victims. Young people are particularly vulnerable to harassing text messages and flaming in social networking sites. Videos of sexual assault have been posted on YouTube.

On the other hand, technology can improve personal security and provide evidence of harassment. Screening technology can exclude unwanted contacts. The article provides information for domestic violence services and for parents about strategies for dealing with high-tech abuse.
