| Notes: | This article discusses violence as experienced and perpetrated by Indigenous Australian women. Bartels explains that the majority of these perpetrators also experience violence, asserting that this cycle is significant in understanding the issues around such behaviour. Under-reporting and insufficient data are then identified as challenges to adequately understanding the phenomena. Finally, the author suggests that responses to the violence must be developed in partnership with Indigenous communities in order to develop culturally competent, inclusive and appropriate strategies. |
