dc.description.notes | Review of Trauma Trails by Judy Atkinson, the book which resulted from a five-year research project conducted between 1993 and 1998 in urban and rural coastal regions of Central Queensland which looks at the experience of violence in Indigenous communities. Presents the concept of ‘Dadirri’ as a research methodology which roughly translates as ‘listening to one another’, and, as an example of ‘Dadirri’, discusses the We Al-li programmes which include workshops in which both individual and collective narratives are exchanged. Refers to the pre- and post-colonial world of Aboriginal society and explains how the ‘cultural collision’, which occurred during the 200 years post-white colonisation, impacted on communities, relationships, and traditional teaching. Concludes with a model for Indigenous community healing which is then linked to broader political, cultural and socio-economic issues. | en |
