Outlines a quantitative exploratory research study conducted in Israeli battered women’s shelters. The project was aimed at ascertaining the prevalence and extent of staff burnout and identifying potential mediating and/or risk factors. While the results indicated staff burnout was relatively rare, a number of limitations to the study were noted. Concludes that burnout amongst workers in battered women’s shelters should not be assumed, rather factors contributing to or mediating the impact of stress in the workplace, such as experience, education, social support, age, and duration and intensity of exposure to stress, must be taken into account.en
