Reports on a study where forty-three mothers and sixty-eight fathers were asked the open-ended question “tell me about your experience of being the parent without custody”. One of the themes that emerged was the real or vicarious violence that pervaded the men’s interactions with their ex-spouses. The implications for those advocating for women and children are discussed, as well as the need to educate to move away from the ‘ownership’ model of marriage and relationships.en
