Discusses the methodology and findings of a US study aimed at designing and validating the Lesbian Partner Abuse Scale (LE-PAS) and its modified version, the Lesbian Partner Abuse Scale Revisited (LE-PAS-R), measurement scales capable of identifying the range of variables related to power imbalances between lesbian couples resulting in partner abuse. A review of the literature on lesbian partner abuse is provided and it is argued that the results of the analysis indicate the LE-PAS and its shorter version, the LE-PAS-R, have strong reliability and moderate-to-strong validity as measurement tools. While the scale identified factors previously associated with lesbian partner abuse, such as substance abuse, it also pointed to new variables which operate as means of control within lesbian relationships. Advocates for further research and the development of a complementary scale developed specifically for male gay partners.en
