Notes: | Women survivors in post-tsunami Sri Lanka faced not only the trauma caused by the disaster itself but increased risk of violence associated with gender inequality which invariably allows the exercise of male domination. This article recounts the establishment of the ‘Woman to Woman” program in Sri Lanka by the authors who conducted a train-the-trainer course for local women community workers. The program involved survivors’ retelling of their experiences in a small group environment and the use of this qualitative data by Sri Lankan woman to lobby Sri Lankan and United Nations officials to support a gendered response to the tsunami disaster. |
