Notes: | The gay and lesbian community has been reluctant to disclose the occurrence of domestic violence within their relationships. Similarly, feminist constructions of men as perpetrators and social acceptance of men-to-men violence both contribute to the failure to address the problem of same-sex partner violence. However, victims' experiences and the need for specialised services have broken the silence. This paper addresses the stages of abuse, the silence of the crimes and the HIV-related violence identified in the studies of Karen Smith, Gerard Webster and Anthony Schembri. |
