General Overview:This Stakeholder Paper compares domestic violence victim’s entitlements to compensation across all eight Australian states and territories, examines reforms introduced to provide greater access and maps out areas for further reform.<br/ ><br/ >Discussion:Historically, domestic violence victims have faced significant barriers when seeking to access victim compensation in Australia. However, some significant reforms have taken place in this area over the past decade, including the introduction of special provisions for domestic violence and/or sexual assault victims in some jurisdictions.<br/ ><br/ >The paper seeks to encourage service providers to become proactive in advising women about this important avenue of financial restitution. By alerting readers to policies and practices in other states, it aims to serve as a basis for more effective advocacy and policy, with better outcomes for victims in this area. While the paper focuses on domestic violence victims’ access to compensation, many of the issues raised will also be relevant to those working with other victims of crime, especially sexual assault victims.en
