This article considers the theoretical analysis of the extent to which domestic violence may be an underlying cause of female suicidality through an Australian literature review in the absence of such data about female suicidal ideation when contrasted to the body of knowledge available on male suicide. It examines the impacts of domestic violence, prevalence of suicide in women, and considers the relationships between domestic violence, mental health in women, victim-blaming attitudes and female suicidality. It suggests that a victim-blaming attitude towards abused women is interrelated with female suicide. It argues that female suicidal ideation which may be caused by domestic violence needs to be treated as an important women’s and public health issue.en
