This article lists the recipients of the various categories of the 2005 Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Awards, presented at Parliament House by the Queensland Minister for Environment, Local Government, Planning and Women. The Director of the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research received an award for the individual category and the Centre shared the award for the School Based Prevention Project category with Woorabinda and the Woorabinda State School in recognition of Koora the Kangaroo: Violence Prevention at Woorabinda State School, a culturally based program, consistent with traditional Aboriginal culture, that teaches children and young people alternatives to violence at the school. Some of the other categories recipients include: North Queensland Domestic Violence Resource Service for their initiative Twisted Love – let’s talk about dating violence, an audio CD for young people aged 13 to 25 (Community Organisation Category); Logan Beaudesert District Mental Health Service for their initiative The Better Beginnings Program, which is an infant mental health program that gives interventions to infants and their families at significant risk (where a parent or caregiver has a mental illness, domestic violence or other stressors); Gold Coast Domestic Violence Integrated Response for their Project SAFER (Safety Assessment For Every Response) to policing domestic violence for introducing risk assessment to police investigations.en
