This study compares and contrasts the findings of the Canadian Violence Against Women Survey and the US National Violence Against Women Survey on risk factors for injury from intimate partner violence. Since the samples needed to be equated, women physically assaulted by boyfriends or former spouses, and certain variables and types of violence were excluded. The final data were obtained from 908 women who reported being physically assaulted by current male spouses. Six risk factors were examined, including fear of injury or death, emotional abuse, child witnesses, frequency of abuse, alcohol involvement and timing of the onset of violence. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression models were employed to predict injury risk.en
